Nicolas AbouAssaly is a partner with the law firm of Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC, where he heads the real estate law department. Prior to joining the firm in 1997, Mr. AbouAssaly was an in-house attorney with Exxon Corporation in Houston, Texas.
Nick has also served as mayor of the City of Marion since January 1, 2016, and has led that community’s growth and progress into a standout community with high resident satisfaction and statewide and national recognition for investments in quality of life and quality of place. Under his leadership, Marion earned the Iowa League of Cities’ All-Star Community award for four out of seven consecutive years, was recognized as one of America’s most livable cities by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and was selected as Community Playmaker’s 2024 National Community of the Year.
Mayor AbouAssaly is active in leadership of the Cedar Rapids / Iowa City region and has been on the Corridor Business Journal’s list of most influential people for seven consecutive years, topping the list in 2018 and 2020. In September, 2023, he was selected as the inaugural Mayor of the Year by the Iowa Mayor’s Association.
