Lindsay Fitzgerald and her seven-year-old son Charlie were able to move into their first home right before the holidays thanks to Habitat for Humanity and the Iowa Finance Authority. A family member had suggested to Lindsay that she apply for Habitat Humanity and although unsure she went ahead and did it. Her and her son were previously living in an apartment and while it wasn’t a house, they were comfortable there. After hearing Lindsay’s story Habitat for Humanity approved Lindsay and her son as a Habitat family. Right away Lindsay and Charlie got involved in the decision-making process, Lindsay was able to pick paint color, cabinets and flooring and when summer came, they even got to help put the walls up. Lindsay loves the open floor plan and huge backyard. And Charlie loves that he was finally able to get a dog, something that his mom says he has been missing his whole life. Lindsay says with this home they are rewriting their family’s story and her son’s childhood into one of stability. They are proud to have a place to call home. Lindsay Fitzgerald Boone
