National Council of State Housing Finance Agencies Honors IFA with Award

DES MOINES – The Iowa Finance Authority was recently honored with a national marketing award from the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) for their 2019 annual report, which showcases the positive chain reactions affordable housing creates throughout the state of Iowa.

“Housing is a leading driver in Iowa’s economic vitality, community and workforce development and health and educational outcomes,” said Iowa Finance Authority and IEDA Executive Director Debi Durham.

“Communicating these success stories is essential, especially as we work to significantly increase housing options for Iowans as we grow our state,” said Director Debi Durham.

“The Iowa Finance Authority’s 2019 annual report is an exceptional example of effectively telling the story of the far-reaching benefits of affordable housing,” said NCSHA Executive Director Stockton Williams.

“The prestigious NCSHA Awards recognize innovative, results-driven initiatives which are replicable by other states.  This marketing tool can be used as a framework for communicating the benefits of affordable housing at a national level as we work toward solving the nation’s housing affordably needs,” said Director Stockton Williams.

The award-winning annual report showcases IFA’s annual investments in each county and state and congressional district in addition to video testimonials from Iowans assisted by IFA’s programs. In addition the report highlights state experts and professionals highlighting the many cross-sector benefits of housing,  including education, from a school counselor, talent development from the Des Moines Partnership and health benefits from a mental health provider, to name a few.

Iowa Finance Authority

The Iowa Legislature created the Iowa Finance Authority in 1975 to undertake programs to assist in the attainment of housing for low- and moderate-income Iowans. Since then, the Iowa Finance Authority’s role has grown to include nearly 40 affordable housing, water quality and beginning farmer programs. The Iowa Finance Authority is a self-supporting public agency whose mission is to enhance the quality of life of Iowans.
